Service Delivery
Service Delivery
The language of IDEA states that IEP’s must include, “The projected date for the beginning of the services and modifications described in paragraph (a)(4) of this section, and the anticipated frequency, location, and duration of those services and modifications.”(NICHCY, 2014) The Service Delivery statement in the IEP should include specifically: how often the child will receive services, how long each session will last, the location where services should be provided, and a start/end date for services. Here is an example format for how the service delivery statement should be recorded: http://nichcy.org/schoolage/iep/iepcontents/services. The document would include the following criteria:Service, Aid or Modification, Frequency Location, Beginning date, and Duration. (Office of Special Education Programs 2006, 2014)
It is in the service delivery segment of the IEP where details are specified about the types of services a student with disability will receive. Services are not just limited to the school year but can also serve students through what is called an “extended school year”. To qualify for the extended school year services decisions are based on the state and LEA guidelines. The IEP team will decide on whether or not the child requires extended school year services.
