Contents of the Individualized Education Plan
The purpose of the Individualized Education Plan is to set goals that will enable students to make academic progress in grade level standards as well as ,"to state the special education and related services and supplementary aids and services that the public agency will provide to, or on behalf of, the child". (NICHCY,2014) Within the IEP there are several parts that include present levels of performance, annual goals, supplementary aids and services, accommodations, related services, Least Restrictive Environments, and service delivery. The IEP team consists of many individuals and each person plays a significant role in the success of the IEP meeting. The team consists of at a minimum, a parent or guardian under IDEA, at least one of the student's teachers, a special education teacher, a system representative of specially designed instruction, a result interpreter, student social expert, and the student. Each of the team members is responsible for contributing to the success of the student receiving services. The collaborative efforts of the IEP plan and the team ensures that every student under IDEA is receiving a "free appropriate public education."
